In sunny Upington, Northern Cape, Pangolin Africa hands over the keys to a brand new Toyota Hilux 4x4 to Machel van Niekerk of the Kalahari Wildlife Project, supporting her work rehabilitating and releasing pangolins rescued from the illegal wildlife trade.
Funded by entry fees from the annual Pangolin Photo Challenge, the new 4x4 replaces a donated 2010 Toyota Fortuner with nearly 300,000 km that often got stuck in sandy terrain and lacked the safety of four-wheel drive on gravel roads. Upington Toyota and my 4x4 Fitment Centre helped equip the Hilux with a range of sponsored accessories—including protection, lights, suspension, awning, canopy, snorkel, exhaust, radio, and spacers—before Machel’s emotional first reveal and the official key handover.
